Ballet With Kasha Watts

From basic pre-ballet to advanced technique and pointe, Kasha Watts offers a variety of youth ballet classes. Beginner students will experience rhythm and music through movement while learning the fundamentals of ballet. Dependent on experience and skill, students will participate in stretching, barre work, and center floor work with an emphasis on posture, muscle strength, technique, and self-discipline in a supportive and encouraging environment. Dress code is required and no jewelry is allowed with the exception of stud earrings.

**Ballet classes are cumulative, new students wishing to perform in our annual winter and spring performances, are required to enroll during the Fall and continue through Spring term. This allows dancers the opportunity to learn and practice ballet technique so that they are confident to perform by Spring term. Classes are pro rated if you begin after the first week of the session.**

A minimum of 3 students(levels 1-4) and 5 students (PreBallet 1 & 2) per class must be enrolled in order for a class to run.

PreBallet I

September 12 - November 21 (No classes: Labor Day and Halloween) / $124 Mondays 4:00 - 4:45 PM / Ages 4.5 - 5.5

This is a fun, creative introduction to basic ballet movement. Emphasis is on coordination, rhythm, music, and mime using props, rhymes, stories and imagination. Your child will be galloping on a pony, leaping over puddles, and learning movements to accompany their favorite preschool songs! Students will learn basic ballet skills and terminology in a supportive and encouraging environment.

PreBallet II

September 8 - November 17 (No classes: 11/24 Thanksgiving break) / $136 Thursdays 4:00 - 4:45 PM / Ages 5.5 - 7

This class transitions from the creative movement aspect of PreBallet l to an emphasis on the fundamentals of ballet. Basic ballet skills, terminology, rhythm, and coordination are taught, practiced, and developed through music and use of props in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Prerequisite Skill: Students must be able to skip and be willing to participate without a parent.

Level I

Setember 6 - November 22) (12 weeks) / $198
Tuesdays 4:30 - 5:30 PM / minimum age 6.5 (Prerequisite: PreBallet ll)

This class is for the novice as well as a transition from PreBallet to a more formal ballet class. The fundamentals of ballet and barre work are introduced as well as an emphasis on ballet class etiquette. Focus is on posture, stretching for flexibility, muscle strength, technique and musicality in a disciplined yet encouraging environment.

One year of Pre-Ballet or formal ballet experience required

Level II

September 7 - November 16 (No classes: 11/23 Thanksgiving Break) / $182
Wednesdays 4:00 - 5:00 PM / minimum age 7.5 (Prerequisite: Level l)

This class is a continuation of the beginner level. Students will continue to build upon the knowledge and skills they developed in level l. Focus will continue on posture, stretching and flexibility, technique , and musicality. To enroll in this level, students must have completed one full year of Level l or be given permission from instructor after attending a placement class.

Prerequisite Skill: stand and work comfortably from fifth position feet and have completed 1 full year of Level l.

Level lll

September 6 - November 22 (12 weeks) / $198
Tuesdays 3:30 - 4:30 PM / minimum age 8.5 (Prerequisite: Level ll)

This is a formal ballet class for young students with ballet experience. Students participate in stretching, barre work and center floor work. They will further develop posture, muscle strength, flexibility, technique, and musicality in a disciplined yet encouraging environment.

Level IV

Session A - Technique & Pointe
September 7 - November 21 (2xs/ per week for 12 weeks) / $600
No classes: 9/5 (Labor day), 10/31 (Halloween), 11/23 (Thanksgiving break)

Mondays ------ Technique 5:00-6:30pm / Pointe 6:30 - 7:00 PM
Wednesday---Tecnique 5:00-6:30pm (Technique/Pointe) combined with level lll

Session B - Technique & Pointe
September 6 - November 22 (3xs/ per week for 12 weeks) / $900
No classes: 9/5 (Labor day), 10/31 (Halloween), 11/23 (Thanksgiving break)

Mondays: Technique 5:00-6:30 / Pointe 6:30-7:00pm
Tuesdays: Technique 5:30-7:00 ( with Level V)
Wednesdays: Technique 5:00-6:30pm (Barre work en pointe)

Level lV is an intermediate level Ballet class for students with previous ballet training At the intermediate level students further develop their ballet technique through stretching, barre work, and center floor work. Continued emphasis on posture, muscle strength, flexibility, technique, musicality, and self discipline in a supportive and encouraging environment. Students continue to work on turns, adagio, as well as petite & grand allegro (jumps) work. Pointe technique wi Introduced/ continued for students aged 10 and up, with approval of instructor. In order to participate in pointe, students are required to attend two technique classes per week.

*Ballet lV-B (3xs/week) is for students who are dedicated to ballet and are given the opportunity to attend an additional technique class with level V each week. *Must have approval by instructor*

All classes at Lakewood are COVID-19 compliant..

We are working hard to ensure a safe environment for educators and students alike. Distancing protocols and guidelines have been relaxed but will be adjusted if needed. Currently, masks are optional for students. However, If a student exhibits any symptoms, we ask them to stay home and get tested for COVID-19 before returning to class.

Proof of vaccination must be presented by showing your vaccination card in physical form or as a photo on your phone. As conditions change we'll post to our website.

Lakewood has installed a new UV-C air purification system to continuously sanitize the theatre and rooms at Lakewood. In addition, all ventilation systems have been upgraded to MERV-13.
